I have a very nice hand made steel floor lamp made by Designer Christopher Flechtner that incorporates a naked bulb. Finding a bulb worthy of this lamp and complimentary in quality has been difficult.
I decided to make a shade for the lamp using a "Collet" design. The shade is made from a single 1mm wide extrusion of Taulman T-Glase polymer in a shape that allows it to be expanded over the LED bulb and held in place with inherent tension.
Several iterations were made to work out the appropriate geometry for tension, shade effect and durability. I now have a parametric model that has easily modified constraints allowing me to customize many aspects of the shade to suit different bulb sizes and lamp shapes.
