This project is a direct result of reading Calvin & Hobbs comics with my kids. Its driven by my affection for Calvin's alter ego, Space Man Spiff, combined with my interest in prop making, particularly sci fi ray guns. I have never seen anyone make one of these guns, so I decided to make one myself. My goal is to create a fully functional prop with lights and sounds .
Currently, I have all components made from PLA plastic and now its ready for wiring and programming. After I've finished this functional prototype, I plan to have the plastic parts replaced with 3D printed metal parts using the binder jet infusion process. The final model will be finished and painted with a matching display stand.
